1. Wear Quality Shoes

Break them in with a few short runs before taking your first long run, and replace them once they have 350 to 500 miles on them.

2. Find the Right Socks

When shopping for quality running shoes, don't forget to pick up several pairs of running socks as well. Avoid cotton socks, which can lead to blisters. Choose lightweight, moisture-wicking socks that will keep your feet dry and supported mile after mile.

3. Keep Your Feet Dry

Wet feet can lead to blisters and fungal infections such as athlete's foot--two conditions that can significantly impair your ability to run long distances. Avoid them by choosing the right socks, using powder or antiperspirant on your feet, and avoiding running through puddles.

4. Tape Your Feet
